ACE002 - CFCF

CFCF is one of those rare talents to whom pop sensibility seems to be second nature. The Montreal native’s wide scope of interest in genre and keen instinct for melody allows him to shift gears effortlessly from Italo to Disco to Balearic and everything in between. Having first caught tastemakers’ attention with his contest winning remix of Crystal Castles “Air War,” CFCF has gone on to produce official remixes for artists such as The Presets, Fan Death, Sally Shapiro, HEALTH, The Teenagers, and Hearts Revolution among many others. Now it’s time for his original compositions to catch people’s ears and so Acéphale Records is happy to present his debut release.
Strictly limited to 500 white 7″s worldwide, this double A-side single is sure to please fans of Aeroplane, Lindstrom and others associated with the current Balearic/Cosmic Disco resurgence. But this release moves beyond trendy sub-genres and buzzwords into some weird pop territory that shifts back and forth between the organic and synthetic. “You Hear Colours” menaces with tribal drums before drifting into balearic bliss with Kate Bush chord changes and guitar solos that manage to both shred and soothe. “Invitation To Love” manages to turn a sample from the Alan Parsons Project track “Voyager” into a disco slow-burner that could warm up just about any floor.
This is basically a hot debut from a producer that we are sure to hear more from in the coming years. With an EP release forthcoming in the new year on Canadian indie stronghold Paper Bag Records (Broken Social Scene, Sally Shapiro) and another to follow on famed Munich label Permanent Vacation (Woolfy, Kathy Diamond), along with a compilation appearence on Lo Recording’s next Milky Disco installment, this limited edition single is sure to become a collector’s item.
“Finally a vinyl debut release from CFCF! “Invitation To Love” is my favourite here and has been on frequent repeat. A funky vibe that climaxes four minutes into the track. A nice 7″ of organic disco jams.” – Johan Agebjörn (Sally Shapiro)
“This is very very good! We like a lot. Full support from Aeroplane.” – Stephen from Aeroplane
“The CFCF stuff is cool – I love it!” – Sinden
“Seems like everything Montreal ’s CFCF touches lately turns to gold. The kid is currently making some of the most authentic, classiest, exquisitely executed disco around, as evidenced by his rad forthcoming You Hear Colours // Invitation to Love seven inch” – Gorilla vs Bear
